Lumpy Grits Artistry is gearing back up for their 2022-2023 season. In 2018, LGA
produced an Afro-Greek version of Lysistrata and took the show on the road. In 2020,
LGA produced an Afro-Greek version of Elektra that was filmed due to Covid-19. The film premiered in June 2021. Lumpy Grits Artistry on February 25, 2023 at Central Art Station Engine for the LGA presents Children’s Theatre Short Scenes. The youth troupe will perform a trio of scenes such as the Cinderella Story, Anansi: Lord of Stories and Anansi Spy Tales: Tell Me A Tale of Resistance.
Renaissance ReImagined: Measure for Measure
Renaissance ReImagined :Measure for Measure was written by William Shakespeare around 1604. It will be artistically directed by Kendra Cherie Gray. This dark comedy is considered one of Shakespeare’s problem plays. The play addresses the ideas of rights, morality and
social rules on sexual relations.
The story takes place in seventeenth century Vienna and centers around the fate
of a young man, Claudio. Lord Angelo, the temporary ruler, has Claudio arrested and
quickly sentenced to death for impregnating his lover, Juliet. It is up to Isabella to save
her brother Claudio from being executed the next day. However, she runs into a
problem. Isabella is in the process of becoming a nun and took a vow of chastity!
Lord Angelo proposes that he will release her brother in exchange for sleeping
with him. The real ruler of Vienna, Duke Vincentio, is in disguise as a monk to see how
Angelo handles power. Angelo abuses his new power. So, the Duke secretly helps
Isabella devises a plan to help her brother. Lord Angelo loses in the end.
